Sweet Lorraine / Kee-Mo Ky-Mo (The Magic Song)

This 1952 reissue on Capitol Records captures a signature period for the Nat King Cole Trio, a group that redefined the jazz-pop landscape of the 1940s and early 1950s. While 'Sweet Lorraine' was a cornerstone of the Trio's repertoire since their mid-1940s sessions, this specific pairing with the novelty track 'Kee-Mo Ky-Mo' reflects Capitol's strategy of repackaging Cole's established classics alongside lighter, popular fare to maximize airplay during the transition from 78 rpm discs to the 45 rpm format.

The musical arrangement highlights Cole's sophisticated piano work and his intimate, velvet vocal delivery, which helped move the Trio from jazz club staples to mainstream stardom. By the time this pressing was released in 1952, Cole had firmly established his identity as a crossover artist, and the label's branding of the record emphasized his role as a quintessential American vocalist, securing his status as one of the most significant recording artists of the twentieth century.
