Where it came from
Tanzen und Träumen was released in 1990 under the independent label HSR, or Happy Sound Records, a boutique imprint managed by Holger Stern. The album arrived during a transitional period for German pop music, where electronic production elements were beginning to blend with traditional Schlager sensibilities. Stern, who served as both artist and producer, aimed to create an accessible soundscape that bridged the gap between late-eighties dance floor energy and the melodic comfort of German sentimental songcraft.
The design of the record reflects the minimalist aesthetic of early nineties independent releases. Rather than utilizing elaborate studio photography, the sleeve leans into a graphic, atmospheric style intended to evoke the titular themes of dance and dreams. While the album remained an obscure entry in the broader HSR catalog, it is recognized by collectors as a representative example of how individual artists leveraged independent distribution to experiment with local pop trends during the German reunification era.
