The Bones Of Barry Harrison

The Bones of Barry Harrison serves as a cornerstone of the Australian post-punk and experimental scene of the early 1980s. Released by the independent Larrikin Records, the album represents a pivotal moment for the band Tactics, led by the enigmatic Dave Studdert. The record emerged from a highly fertile period in Sydney’s underground music circuit, where groups were increasingly turning away from traditional rock structures toward more jagged, atmospheric, and intellectually demanding compositions.

The album's design and sound are deeply informed by the austere, often disorienting aesthetic favored by the label’s roster at the time. Tactics aimed to synthesize the tension of urban life with unconventional rhythmic structures and stark, poetic lyricism. While the album was not a mainstream success upon its 1982 debut, it achieved a lasting cult reputation among enthusiasts of independent music, frequently cited by music critics as a definitive example of the experimental vitality present in Australian alternative music during that decade.
