Where it came from
Released in 1966 on the Originaldisc label, this recording of 'Un Uomo E Una Donna' captures the era's fascination with the iconic theme song from Claude Lelouch's Academy Award-winning film. The track emerged during a period when Italian vocalists frequently interpreted international film scores, blending the sophisticated, bossa-nova-inflected pop aesthetic prevalent in European cinema soundtracks of the mid-sixties with localized stylistic flourishes.
Marisa Frigerio's rendition serves as a specific entry in the catalog of Italian cover versions inspired by the original Francis Lai composition. The design of the Originaldisc release, catalog number OD 6, reflects the minimalist aesthetic of mid-century Italian independent labels, which focused on packaging popular film themes for domestic listeners eager to own a piece of the burgeoning cinematic romanticism that defined the period.
