Un Uomo, Una Donna / Canzone di Lara

Released in 1966 on the French Barclay label, this 45 RPM single showcases the orchestral arrangements of Eddie Barclay. The record serves as a musical interpretation of themes from international cinema of the era, specifically featuring the iconic compositions associated with the films A Man and a Woman and Doctor Zhivago. Barclay, a prominent figure in the French music industry, utilized his orchestra to bridge the gap between sophisticated film scores and popular easy-listening jazz.

The production reflects the mid-century trend of recording instrumental versions of cinematic hits for the European market. By pairing Francis Lai's romantic score for A Man and a Woman with the ubiquitous Lara's Theme, the single catered to the audience's desire to own a piece of the burgeoning film culture. The design and arrangement prioritize a lush, sweeping orchestral sound that was a hallmark of Barclay's commercial aesthetic during the mid-1960s.
