Where it came from
Unite! / Untie! emerged in 2004 as a self-released artifact from the mysterious entity Plate-O-Shrimp, The Unstuck. Operating outside the traditional music industry infrastructure, this release reflects the experimental, DIY ethos of the early 2000s underground avant-garde scene. Its existence on a label with no formal identity underscores a commitment to artistic autonomy, prioritizing the conceptual exploration of sound over commercial accessibility.
The design of the record, cataloged as POSTU01, leans heavily into the minimalist and conceptual aesthetic prevalent in independent music of the era. The artist focused on creating an experience of dissonance and resolution, using the dichotomy of the title to frame the listener's journey through the tracks. Received primarily within niche experimental circuits, the work is regarded as a hallmark of elusive, non-commercial production, valued by collectors for its intentional obscurity and lack of standardized distribution.
