Waloso To Uketho!!

Waloso To Uketho!! was released in 1978 on the Kaya-Lami label, representing a vital moment in the evolution of Benga music. The D.O. 7 Shirati Jazz band, led by the enigmatic and influential Daniel Owino Misiani, was instrumental in shaping the rhythmic, guitar-driven sound that defined the Lake Victoria region of Kenya. This record emerged during a period of high productivity for the group as they transitioned from traditional Benga roots toward the polished, upbeat arrangements that would cement their status as titans of East African popular music.

The album captures the distinctive interlocking guitar patterns and complex vocal harmonies that became the signature of the D.O. 7 Shirati Jazz style. While specific design credits for the sleeve art remain obscure, the aesthetic follows the conventions of 1970s Kenyan record production, which often prioritized bold, utilitarian typography and direct imagery to communicate the band’s identity to a rapidly growing urban and rural listenership. The record is highly regarded today by ethnomusicologists and collectors for its preservation of the vibrant, polyrhythmic soul of the era's Tanzanian and Kenyan musical cross-pollination.
