Water From The Moon

Water From The Moon was released in 1991 on A West Side Fabrication, a boutique label based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The label was instrumental in championing the American darkwave and gothic rock underground during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Holger Danske was a solo project by musician and writer Michael Moynihan, who utilized the platform to explore themes of European neofolk, esoteric history, and martial industrial soundscapes.

The album serves as a hallmark of the experimental ambient-folk movement that emerged during this period, characterized by its lo-fi production, stark acoustic arrangements, and evocative, melancholic textures. The aesthetic choices behind the release—ranging from the minimalist cover art to the cryptic nature of the tracklist—were designed to evoke a sense of detachment and historical longing. While the release remained within niche distribution channels, it became a reference point for listeners interested in the darker, more atmospheric edges of post-industrial music.
