Where it came from
The self-titled album by Holger Danske was released in 1990 on the independent label A West Side Fabrication. Emerging from the vibrant post-punk and underground rock scene of the era, the project reflects the label's commitment to releasing experimental and niche guitar-driven music. The band drew inspiration from the legendary figure of Danish folklore, imbuing their sound with a somber, atmospheric quality characteristic of the period's darker rock movements.
The record, cataloged as We 017, stands as a distinct artifact of the independent cassette and vinyl culture that defined the late eighties and early nineties. The artwork and sonic direction were intended to evoke a sense of mythic melancholy, capturing the introspective mood prevalent in European underground circles at the time. It was received as a localized cult effort, finding a dedicated audience among those who frequented independent record shops and sought out abrasive, thoughtful compositions.
