Where it came from
Released on the Roxy label during the late 1930s, this shellac disc features two distinct tracks representing the popular musical trends of the era. The A-side, Wenn Der Weisse Flieder Wieder Blüht, is a classic German sentimental waltz that remained a cultural staple long after its initial composition, while the B-side, Lambeth Walk, reflects the immense international popularity of the novelty dance craze originating from the 1937 musical Me and My Girl.
The record was produced as part of the broader Roxy catalog, which focused on accessible dance band music and orchestral arrangements for the European market. Richard Etzbach and his entertainment orchestra provided a characteristic interpretation of these standard hits, aiming to provide danceable, melodic content for home listening and public social venues during a period when radio and phonograph records were the primary mediums for distributing popular entertainment.
