Where it came from
Released in the mid-1950s on the Decca label, this record features Mantovani and His Orchestra performing the German classic 'Wenn Der Weiße Flieder Wieder Blüht' alongside the 'Krönungs-Walzer'. Mantovani, an Italian-born conductor based in the United Kingdom, was at the height of his international popularity during this period, having pioneered a distinctive 'cascading strings' sound that defined the easy-listening genre for a generation.
The recording reflects the mid-century appetite for orchestral arrangements of international standards and European waltzes. As a staple of the Decca catalog, these tracks were produced to showcase the lush, reverberant audio quality that became the hallmark of the Mantovani brand, appealing to a broad demographic of listeners who favored sophisticated, melodic instrumentation for home entertainment.
