Where it came from
Released in 1994 on the seminal Deep Jungle label, X-Amount / Wicked & Bad represents the early intersection of hardcore breakbeat and the burgeoning jungle sound. Deep Jungle, run by Harmony, became a cornerstone of the UK underground scene during this era, focusing on the dark, atmospheric, and rhythmically complex drum patterns that defined the transition from rave to jungle.
The production style of Harmony & Xtreme reflects the raw, hardware-driven aesthetic of mid-nineties underground dance music. By utilizing heavy sampling and intricate breakbeat editing, the tracks captured the tense, nocturnal energy of London club culture. The release is widely regarded by genre historians as a foundational example of the 'dark side' jungle movement, celebrated for its technical precision and influence on later drum and bass producers.
