Where it came from
Released in 2017 on the SLX Press label, this compilation serves as a retrospective document of the early artistic output of the band X, a group deeply embedded in the late 1970s Los Angeles punk scene. The collection was curated to gather the foundational tracks and elusive rarities recorded between 1977 and 1983, a period marked by the band's influential blend of rockabilly, country, and aggressive punk sensibilities that defined the nascent West Coast underground movement.
The release was designed to provide a cohesive archival experience for listeners, focusing on the raw energy and songwriting progression that defined the band's initial years. By compiling these specific recordings under catalog number SLX 007, the label aimed to preserve the historical context of the era, reflecting a time when the band was frequently performing at iconic venues like The Masque. The compilation was generally received by enthusiasts as a valuable reference point for documenting the band’s stylistic evolution during their most prolific creative surge.
