Where it came from
Ya Yae Ya Yo Yo Yo was released in 1998 on the independent label Excession, a boutique imprint associated with the experimental and ambient electronic scene of the late nineties. The record emerged during a period of significant exploration in sound collage and rhythmic experimentation, capturing the eclectic spirit of the underground dance and left-field music communities of the United Kingdom.
The Voices of Kwahn project functioned as a collaborative vehicle for various producers and vocalists, reflecting an aesthetic that prioritized textured sonic layers over traditional song structures. While the release remains a deep-cut obscurity, it is noted by collectors of the era for its distinct, minimalist cover art and its contribution to the niche, avant-garde catalog of Excession, which prioritized atmospheric innovation during its limited years of operation.
