Where it came from
Released in 1994 by the Zexos Empire label, Ya Yae Ya Yo Yo Yo (The Awakening) by Voices Of Kwahn represents a niche moment in mid-nineties experimental and underground music. The release, cataloged as Z.PRO 008, emerged during a period of experimentation within electronic and rhythmic soundscapes, reflecting the label's interest in unconventional audio aesthetics that sought to push past the traditional boundaries of the dance floor.
The design and production of the record carry the hallmarks of independent distribution, prioritizing abstract themes and esoteric presentation over mass-market appeal. While little is documented regarding the specific individual illustrators behind its sleeve, the artwork functions as a visual extension of the ambient, rhythmic layering found within the tracks. Upon its limited release, it was primarily received within dedicated experimental music circles, remaining a sought-after curiosity for collectors of late-twentieth-century avant-garde vinyl.
