Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday

Released in 1971 on the Romanian state-owned label Electrecord, this recording features Derek John Tilley interpreting popular Western tracks of the era. Within the context of the Cold War, Electrecord served as the primary vehicle for distributing both local and licensed international music in Romania, often issuing EPs that provided listeners behind the Iron Curtain access to Western pop and soul sensibilities.

The production reflects the eclectic curatorial approach of the label at the time, which frequently paired international performers with its domestic pressing infrastructure. As a modest release in the EDC catalog series, the record represents a snapshot of the cultural exchange programs that allowed artists like Tilley to find a foothold in the Eastern European market, blending the aesthetics of contemporary pop with the distinct sonic characteristics of Romanian vinyl pressing techniques from the early seventies.
