Where it came from
Stevie Wonder released 'Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday' in 1969 as a standalone single during a period of creative transition for the artist. The song, penned by Bryan Wells and Ron Miller, reflects the classic Motown sound of the era, focusing on themes of nostalgia and the emotional complexities of past romance. It became one of his most successful international hits during his late teenage years, showcasing his maturing vocal style and the polished production typical of the Tamla Motown stable.
The B-side, 'My Cherie Amour', was originally recorded in 1968 and eventually grew to become one of Wonder’s most enduring signatures. Written by Wonder along with Sylvia Moy and Henry Cosby, the track is celebrated for its lush arrangements and sophisticated melodic structure. While the record was released across various international territories under the Tamla Motown banner, it remains a quintessential example of the label's ability to blend pop sensibility with deep musical craftsmanship, solidifying Wonder’s transition from a child star to a formidable adult songwriter.
