Yester-me, Yester-you, Yester-day / My Cherie Amour

This 1971 release serves as a strategic retrospective pairing of two of Stevie Wonder's most successful mid-period Motown singles. 'My Cherie Amour' was originally composed and released in 1969, marking a pivot toward a more sophisticated, orchestral-pop sound that solidified Wonder’s transition from a child star to a mature adult artist. The song was co-written by Sylvia Moy and Henry Cosby, reflecting the tight-knit collaborative atmosphere of the Motown hit factory during the late sixties.

The coupling with 'Yester-me, Yester-you, Yester-day'—a track that leans into a nostalgic, melancholic ballad style—highlights the artistic range Wonder developed under the guidance of the label's production team. While Wonder would later seek complete creative autonomy, these records represent the peak of his apprenticeship at Motown, where the emphasis on polished arrangements and emotive vocal delivery helped cement his status as a pillar of the label's international influence.
