Where it came from
Zack! Zack! Zessions was released in 2019 as a retrospective project by the German band Die Zöllner, a group originally formed in the late 1980s by Dirk Zöllner. The album emerged during a period of reflection for the band, intended to revisit and rework earlier material with a fresh perspective. It serves as a testament to the band’s enduring presence in the German pop and soul scene, capturing the evolution of their sound over three decades of performance.
The design and production of the record reflect the band's aesthetic of blending soulful instrumentation with observational, often witty lyrics. As an independent release under the A&O label, the album was crafted to appeal to longtime supporters who have followed the group since their rise in the GDR music scene. It was received as a nostalgic yet technically refined collection, highlighting the consistent artistry of the core members despite the shifting landscape of the music industry.
