Zicke-Zacke Zicke-Zacke Hoi-Hoi-Hoi

Released in 1973 by the German folk group Die Gonsbachlerchen, this single features the drinking song 'Zicke-Zacke Zicke-Zacke Hoi-Hoi-Hoi.' The track is a quintessential example of the German Schlager and Volksmusik genre, specifically the type of festive, communal music intended for beer halls and carnival celebrations. The song was crafted to facilitate group participation, relying on a call-and-response structure that had become a staple of Oktoberfest and German-themed festivities during the mid-20th century.

The record was distributed by BASF, a company that was a major player in the European music industry during the 1970s. While Die Gonsbachlerchen were not experimental innovators, they were highly effective at capturing the spirit of the 'Frohsinn'—a sense of communal cheer—that defined the era's regional music scenes. The recording is technically straightforward, focusing on brass instrumentation and vocal harmony to ensure it could be easily broadcast or played over loudspeakers in large, boisterous public venues.
