Where it came from
Zig-Zag Walk was released in 1983 as the eleventh studio album by the British rock band Foghat. By this stage in their career, the group was navigating a shifting musical landscape that favored new wave and synth-pop, moving away from the blues-rock boogie sound that had defined their massive success throughout the 1970s. The album was recorded at Bearsville Studios, the facility founded by their longtime manager Albert Grossman, and represented one of the final efforts of the band's original era before a lengthy hiatus.
The album cover features a stark, minimalist design that contrasts with the band's earlier, more flamboyant visual identity. Released during a time of commercial transition for the label, the record did not achieve the chart heights of their previous live or studio work. While it remains a deep-cut favorite for dedicated followers of the band's discography, it is often viewed by critics as a reflection of the creative pressures faced by established rock acts attempting to remain relevant in the early eighties.
