Provenance

Where it came from

Ancient Gear Castle was introduced as part of the Shadow of Infinity booster set, released in 2006 during the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX era. It was designed to support the Ancient Gear archetype, a group of machine-type monsters heavily featured by the character Vellian Crowler in the animated series. The card mechanics were specifically crafted to provide a defensive structure for high-level monsters, allowing players to utilize counters that accumulate each turn, reflecting the mechanical and progressive nature of the archetype's theme.

The card’s artwork follows the aesthetic established for the Ancient Gear series, characterized by a fusion of archaic architecture and industrial machine components. As a Super Rare card, it stood out for its distinct holographic foil treatment upon its initial release. Its design is intended to emphasize the 'garrison' feel of the Ancient Gear deck, providing a strategic anchor on the field that aligns with the brutal, non-reactive playstyle associated with the theme's offensive capabilities.
