Provenance

Where it came from

Ancient Gear Factory was released as a common spell card in the 2006 Shadow of Infinity booster set, a pivotal expansion that introduced the Ancient Gear archetype to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. These cards were designed to represent the mechanical, steam-powered aesthetic of the monsters used by the character Crowler in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX animated series, focusing on a playstyle that emphasizes aggressive, machine-type board presence.

The card's design was conceptualized by the Konami design team to provide tactical support for the deck by allowing players to banish Ancient Gear cards from their graveyard to bolster their offensive capabilities. As a staple utility card for this specific theme, it was received primarily as a thematic engine builder rather than a competitive meta-defining card, though it remains a nostalgic inclusion for fans of the early GX-era machine decks.
