Provenance

Where it came from

Assault Counter is a trap card originally featured in the OTS Tournament Pack 30, a product line released by Konami specifically for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game organized play circuit. These packs are distributed exclusively to official tournament stores as rewards for participants, serving to support the competitive ecosystem rather than being sold in standard retail booster boxes. The card functions as a utility piece, designed to interact with mechanics centered around counter accumulation, reflecting the game's ongoing focus on niche archetype support.

The design of cards within the OTS Tournament series often prioritizes competitive utility or high-rarity reprints of older, functional cards to keep tournament play accessible. As a common rarity entry in OP30, Assault Counter represents the functional side of these tournament-exclusive packs. While the card itself is a specific piece of card game mechanical design, it fits into the broader history of Konami’s effort to incentivize local game store participation by providing exclusive, curated card selections that rotate seasonally.
