Provenance

Where it came from

Eternal Rest was released in 2003 as part of the Starter Deck: Joey, a pre-constructed product designed to replicate the deck used by the character Joey Wheeler from the Yu-Gi-Oh! animated series. As a common rarity spell card, it was produced to provide players with a accessible tool for board control, specifically targeting monsters that had been summoned back from the graveyard. This release coincided with the height of the series' popularity, catering to fans looking to emulate their favorite on-screen duelist's strategy.

The card's design features artwork typical of the early game's aesthetic, emphasizing a gothic or supernatural tone consistent with Joey’s more unorthodox deck choices. While the card is often viewed as a niche tactical option due to its specific activation requirements, it remains a recognizable relic of the early competitive landscape. Its inclusion in the Starter Deck series helped solidify the card pool available to newcomers, reflecting the design philosophy of balancing iconic character-themed cards with functional utility.
