Provenance

Where it came from

Just Desserts (SDJ-042) was released as part of the Starter Deck: Joey, which debuted in the North American market in 2003. This deck was designed to mirror the playstyle of the character Joey Wheeler from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters anime series, focusing on luck-based mechanics and cards that punish an opponent for their board state. The card itself functions as a burn trap, dealing direct damage to the opponent based on the number of monsters they control, reflecting the series' recurring theme of cards that turn an opponent's strength into a liability.

The card’s artwork and design are consistent with the aesthetic established by Kazuki Takahashi for the original card game. As a common rarity card, it was produced in high volume to ensure accessibility for players looking to bolster their decks with defensive options. While not a centerpiece of competitive play, the card is recognized by enthusiasts for its utility in 'burn' archetype strategies and its direct thematic connection to the classic early years of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game.
