Evilswarm Salamandra

Evilswarm Salamandra was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Hidden Arsenal 7: Knight of Stars expansion in 2013, later being reprinted as a common in the 2014 War of the Giants: Round 2 set. This card belongs to the 'lswarm' archetype, a group of corrupted versions of existing Duel Terminal monsters that serve as the primary antagonists in the overarching Hidden Arsenal lore. The design reflects the visual aesthetic of the archetype, characterized by dark, bio-mechanical armor and violet energy accents, signifying their corruption by the evil 'Steelswarm' forces.

The card was illustrated to fit the theme of the archetype's reliance on the graveyard, functioning as an effect monster that can boost its own attack by banishing other 'lswarm' monsters from the graveyard. Within the competitive landscape of the time, the card was received as a utility piece for Evilswarm decks, which were notable for their focus on controlling the field through Xyz summoning. The War of the Giants: Round 2 release was designed as a bridge for players to acquire various cards from the competitive meta in a more accessible format.
