Where it came from
Frightfur Wolf was introduced as part of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game set The New Challengers, which was released in early 2015. The card represents the archetype used by the character Sora Perse in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V animated series. The design leans into a macabre aesthetic, featuring a patchwork fusion of a stuffed animal and a serrated blade, which was intended to reflect the dark, aggressive nature of the Frightfur deck's mechanics.
The card was illustrated to align with the Frightfur fusion theme, which combines various Fluffal monsters with Edge Imp creatures to create grotesque combatants. Upon release, the Rare-level card was recognized by players for its ability to attack multiple times depending on the number of materials used in its fusion, making it a pivotal offensive tool for those playing the Frightfur strategy during the mid-2010s competitive environment.
