Where it came from
Giant Trunade was originally released in the early years of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, serving as a powerful utility spell that returned all spell and trap cards on the field to their owners' hands. Its design reflects the strategic emphasis on clearing the backrow to allow for uninterrupted monster attacks, a cornerstone of competitive play during the game's formative era.
The version from the Starter Deck: Syrus Truesdale, labeled YSDS-EN023, was produced to help introduce players to the mechanics favored by the titular character from the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX animated series. While the card became a staple for its ability to enable aggressive 'one-turn kill' strategies, it eventually earned a permanent spot on the game's Forbidden list in official formats due to its high utility in enabling degenerate playstyles.
