Heavy Slump

Heavy Slump was released as part of the Soul of the Duelist expansion set in 2004, marking a period in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game where the game design began to lean more heavily into punishing specific deck archetypes. The card was designed to penalize players who utilized draw-heavy tactics by forcing them to discard their hand if they drew four or more cards at once, a direct thematic response to the meta-game's reliance on explosive draw power.

The artwork for this card features a stylized, frustrated character slumped over, capturing the comical yet punitive essence of the game's shift toward disruptive trap cards during the mid-2000s. While common in rarity, it remains a notable example of the era's focus on situational counter-play, reflecting the designers' intent to balance resource management in a game that was rapidly accelerating in pace.
