Infected Mail was introduced in the Battle Pack: Epic Dawn set, released by Konami in 2012. This specific set was designed as a standalone draft-style experience, intended to be played straight from the booster packs rather than integrated into existing constructed decks. The card itself originates from the earlier Yu-Gi-Oh! GX era, originally appearing as a common in the Tactical Evolution set, representing the game's shift toward cards that manipulate monster stats or positions to bypass standard combat interactions.

The design of Infected Mail functions as a Continuous Spell that allows a player to pay a portion of their life points to force a lower-level monster to attack directly. While it was initially conceived as a tactical maneuver to overcome defensive board states, its inclusion in Battle Pack: Epic Dawn was strategic, providing players with a recurring, albeit costly, method to chip away at an opponent's life points in an environment where reliable removal spells were intentionally scarce.
