Infestation Wave

Infestation Wave was released in the Hidden Arsenal 5: Steelswarm Invasion booster set, which debuted in the North American market in 2012. As part of the Hidden Arsenal series, this card was printed using the distinct foil technology characteristic of the line, which featured cards previously released in Japan's Duel Terminal arcade game series. The card was designed to support the Steelswarm archetype, an aggressive swarm-based deck that focused on sacrificing lower-level monsters to summon powerful high-level counterparts.

The card was illustrated to reflect the dark, biomechanical aesthetic of the Steelswarm race, emphasizing their hive-mind nature and invasive qualities. Mechanically, the card allows players to return a Steelswarm monster to the hand to destroy an opponent’s monster, offering a defensive utility that complemented the deck's otherwise high-cost offensive playstyle. Upon its release, it was regarded by collectors and competitive players as a thematic staple for Steelswarm builds, though it saw limited play in broader tournament formats due to the narrow requirements of its effect.
