Knightmare Gryphon

The Knightmare Gryphon was introduced in the Genesis Impact set, released in 2020 as part of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. This set is notable for its focus on introducing several distinct archetypes—Drytron, Evil Eye, and Live☆Twin—while reprinting various powerful staples. The Knightmare series of monsters, to which the Gryphon belongs, was designed to function as a versatile toolkit for players, emphasizing field control through its ability to lock down special summoned monsters based on the number of co-linked monsters on the field.

The design of the Knightmare monsters draws heavily from a dark, industrial, and cybernetic aesthetic that contrasts with the traditional high-fantasy themes found elsewhere in the game. These monsters are depicted as corrupted or mechanized versions of mythological creatures, reflecting a theme of digital malevolence. Upon its release, the card was received as a significant tactical piece for competitive play, valued for its disruptive effect that prevents opponents from relying on their own special-summoned resources while it remains on the board.
