Mask of Brutality was released in 2002 as part of the Labyrinth of Nightmare booster set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. As an Equip Spell card, it reflects the game's early mechanical focus on enhancing monster statistics while introducing strategic risks, specifically the cost of life points during each standby phase.
