Provenance

Where it came from

The Mask of Weakness was released as part of the Demo Pack, a specialized product designed to introduce new players to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. These packs were distributed during promotional events and served as an entry point for the game's mechanics, featuring a curated selection of cards that showcased essential tactical interactions and fundamental card types.

As a common trap card, the design focuses on basic gameplay utility, allowing a player to decrease the attack of an opponent's monster during battle. The artwork reflects the early aesthetic of the game's monster-focused lore, emphasizing thematic consistency with other mask-themed cards in the original Konami card pool. It remains a representative artifact of the game's early developmental era, where simple stat manipulation was a cornerstone of trap card design.
