Provenance

Where it came from

The Mask of Weakness was released in the Duel Terminal Preview Wave 1, a limited-run introduction to the Duel Terminal arcade machine series in North American markets. Originally introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game ecosystem as a way to integrate physical card gameplay with digital arcade cabinets, this set provided players with early access to cards that featured a distinct, shimmering parallel foil finish unique to the arcade hardware.

The design of the Mask of Weakness reflects the dark, mythological aesthetic typical of the early Duel Terminal sets, which emphasized themes of warring factions and cursed artifacts. As a continuous trap card, its mechanical intent was to provide tactical defense by penalizing the attack power of opposing monsters, serving as a staple utility option for players exploring the defensive strategies encouraged by the set's inaugural card pool.
