Masked Sorcerer

Masked Sorcerer was released in the English-language Metal Raiders set in 2002, serving as one of the early expansion cards for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Originating from the Japanese 'Booster 4' and later 'Metal Raiders' sets, the card was introduced during a period when the game was rapidly building its foundational card pool to support the mechanics established in the Starter Decks. As a dark-attribute spellcaster, it functioned as a strategic tool for players looking to balance low-level board presence with an effect that provided card advantage upon dealing battle damage.

The card’s design features the signature aesthetic of Kazuki Takahashi’s conceptual universe, utilizing a gothic, mystical motif that was characteristic of early Yu-Gi-Oh! card art. The illustration depicts a cloaked figure, emphasizing the franchise's emphasis on dark fantasy archetypes. Within the context of the game's competitive history, its utility was prized by players for its ability to draw cards, though it was eventually eclipsed as more efficient draw engines were introduced to the meta-game in subsequent years.
