Provenance

Where it came from

Masked Sorcerer was released in the North American debut of the Metal Raiders booster set, which hit store shelves in 2002. As a pivotal early expansion for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, Metal Raiders introduced the mechanic of Counter Trap cards and expanded the library of effect monsters available to players, building upon the foundations laid by the Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon set.

The card features artwork consistent with the aesthetic of Kazuki Takahashi’s original manga, depicting a mysterious, robed spellcaster. Designed during the game’s nascent stage, the card was intended to provide utility through its draw effect, rewarding players for successfully dealing battle damage. It remains a notable relic from the era when the game's competitive landscape was just beginning to take shape.
