Master of Oz

Master of Oz was released in 2004 as part of the Soul of the Duelist expansion set, which marked the beginning of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX era in the card game. As a fusion monster requiring the combination of Big Koala and Des Kangaroo, the card reflects the whimsical yet formidable creature designs prevalent in the early stages of the GX cycle. Its design leans into the thematic fusion of Australian wildlife, blending a towering primate aesthetic with the brawn of a martial-artist marsupial to create a powerhouse attacker.

The card was designed to be a high-attack beatstick, serving as a reward for players who successfully managed a specific fusion summon. Within the competitive landscape of the time, it was recognized for its straightforward, aggressive stats rather than complex field effects. It remains a notable piece of mid-2000s card design, representing the transitional period where the game moved from the original Duel Monsters series toward the diverse creature archetypes that defined the later stages of the franchise.
