Night Assailant

Night Assailant was introduced in the Ancient Sanctuary booster set, released in 2004. As an effect monster, it was designed to provide players with a strategic way to manage their graveyard resources, specifically allowing for the recovery of Flip Effect monsters when sent to the graveyard. Its release occurred during a pivotal era for the game, where tactical graveyard manipulation began to influence the competitive landscape more heavily.

The card's design features artwork typical of the darker, gothic-inspired aesthetic prevalent in early-to-mid Yu-Gi-Oh card sets. While specific design credits for individual cards in the set are often attributed to the broader Konami development team rather than single illustrators, the card was received as a highly functional tool for deck-thinning and resource recycling. It remains a notable example of a common-rarity card that gained relevance due to its unique, utility-focused mechanics rather than brute force.
