Where it came from
Pot of Avarice was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in 2005. It quickly became a staple in competitive play due to its powerful ability to recycle monsters from the graveyard back into the deck while providing card draw. This specific iteration hails from Dark Revelation Volume 4, a reprint set released in 2007 that collected popular cards from previous expansion sets to make them more accessible to players.
The card's design features the iconic Pot of Greed figure, repurposed with a distinct, eerie aesthetic. It was designed to represent the concept of recycling resources to gain a long-term strategic advantage. Upon its release, it was lauded by the community for its balancing act, as it required significant setup to use effectively, ultimately becoming one of the most recognizable and frequently played spell cards in the history of the game.
