Reasoning first debuted in the OCG's 'Pharaonic Guardian' set in 2002 before being introduced to the TCG. As a Normal Spell, it was designed to reward players for building decks with varied monster levels, forcing an opponent to guess a level while the player excavates cards until a monster appears. Its strategic utility lies in its ability to bypass standard summoning conditions and fill the graveyard, making it a cornerstone for combo-heavy strategies that rely on graveyard recursion.

The card was included in the 2012 'Dragons Collide' Structure Deck (SDDC-EN031) as a common-rarity reprint.
