Swarm of Locusts

Swarm of Locusts was released in 2003 as part of the Pharaonic Guardian booster set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. This set is particularly notable for introducing a variety of cards centered around the Gravekeeper’s archetype and insect-type monsters, reflecting a thematic focus on ancient Egyptian motifs that aligned with the airing of the original animated series at the time.

The card’s artwork and mechanical design were developed by Konami’s design team as part of a series of flip-effect monsters intended to provide players with reactive removal options. By allowing a player to destroy one face-down monster on the field upon being flipped, it served as a tactical tool to manage the board state. While it never rose to the prominence of more staple tournament cards, it remains recognized by collectors as a characteristic piece of the early-2000s era of the game.
