Provenance

Where it came from

Veil of Darkness was introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the 2008 set Gladiator's Assault. As a Continuous Spell card, its design reflects the set's focus on tactical deck manipulation and archetype-specific synergy, particularly for Dark-attribute monster strategies. The artwork features a haunting, atmospheric aesthetic that aligns with the darker visual motifs prevalent in cards released during the GX-era of the game.

The card was illustrated by Konami’s internal design team, consistent with the standardized visual style of the series. Upon its release, it was categorized as a Secret Rare, a high-tier rarity that utilized a distinct diagonal foil pattern. While it was not a centerpiece of competitive play, collectors frequently sought it out for its aesthetic appeal and the premium finish that defined the Secret Rare cards of the mid-2000s.
