Where it came from
100% Pascal-sensei originated as a comedic manga series by Yuji Nagai, serialized in CoroCoro Comic starting in 2015. The story centers on an eccentric, frog-like teacher named Pascal who exhibits bizarre behaviors and bizarre anatomical transformations. Given the property's popularity among younger readers, the studio OLM adapted the series into an original net animation (ONA) in 2016 to expand its digital footprint and reach audiences accustomed to short-form web content.
The production sought to capture the high-energy, slapstick, and intentionally surreal aesthetic of Nagai’s original illustrations. OLM focused on translating the manga’s rapid-fire gags and crude, vibrant visual style into a dynamic animated format. Upon release, the series was received primarily as a niche curiosity within the children’s comedy genre, functioning largely as a promotional vehicle for the broader Pascal-sensei merchandise line and the subsequent theatrical film.
