Where it came from
The 500,000,000 Years button is a promotional item released by Studio Sota in 2022, inspired by the surrealist themes found within their episodic television projects. The design centers on the iconic, unsettling visual motif of the 'five hundred million years' conceptual sequence, which serves as a psychological anchor within the series narrative. Its production was intended to act as a tangible link to the show's dark, atmospheric storytelling, providing fans with a piece of the show's lore that mimics the aesthetic of the objects handled by characters on screen.
The item was conceived by the studio's in-house design team, who aimed for a minimalist yet ominous aesthetic to reflect the show's exploration of time and isolation. By utilizing a stark, utilitarian font against a muted color palette, the designers sought to evoke a sense of bureaucratic dread consistent with the series' tone. Upon release, the button was well-received by the show's dedicated community, who valued its understated quality and its ability to act as a subtle, thematic nod to the complex existential dilemmas presented in the series.
