7-kakan.

7-kakan is a celebrated Swedish children’s book written by Lennart Hellsing and illustrated by Poul Ströyer, first published in 1963. The work emerged from a golden age of Swedish picture books, where Hellsing’s rhythmic, playful language was paired with innovative visual styles to engage young readers. It is characterized by a whimsical, surreal approach to storytelling, reflecting the creative collaboration between the author and illustrator that defined much of mid-century Scandinavian children's literature.

Poul Ströyer’s illustrations for the book are noted for their distinct, vibrant aesthetic, which helped cement the title as a classic in the genre. The design approach focused on imaginative characterizations and lively movement, aiming to complement the poetic cadence of Hellsing’s text. Upon release, the book was well-received for its artistic merit and remains a staple in Swedish literary heritage, frequently cited for its role in shaping the modern visual identity of Nordic children's books.
