Where it came from
700 Gram no Gogo is a short animated film produced by students at the Tokyo University of the Arts, widely known as Geidai, under the umbrella of their renowned animation department. The project emerged from an academic environment that emphasizes experimental storytelling and traditional techniques, reflecting the institution's commitment to pushing the boundaries of independent Japanese animation.
The film is characteristic of the studio's focus on intimate, character-driven narratives that often utilize a distinctive visual vocabulary to explore themes of weight, identity, or physicality. As part of a student-produced portfolio, the piece represents the raw creative output of emerging animators who prioritize artistic expression over commercial viability, earning respect within independent film circuits for its conceptual depth and stylistic execution.
