7SEEDS Part 2

7SEEDS Part 2 serves as the concluding installment of the original net animation adaptation of Yumi Tamura’s celebrated manga series. Produced by Studio GONZO and released in 2020, this continuation picks up the narrative threads left by the first season, following groups of young people cryogenically frozen to ensure the survival of humanity after a catastrophic meteorite impact. The production sought to condense a sprawling, long-running manga into an accessible streaming format, grappling with the challenge of adapting a complex, character-driven survival epic into a limited episode count.

The visual direction and character designs aimed to honor the distinct, emotive style Tamura established in her source material, which was originally serialized in the 1990s and 2000s. While the series garnered interest for its high-concept premise and the depth of its source material, the adaptation was met with mixed reception from fans of the manga. Critics and long-time readers often noted the difficulties in pacing and animation quality, yet the project remains a significant effort to bring a seminal work of post-apocalyptic shojo science fiction to a global streaming audience.
