Sisters Mariko and Mayu, along with Mariko's bad-tempered boyfriend, become involved with Ichiro, an arrogant, womanizing male model.
A-Girl has very few lines of dialogue and is performed against a background of Japanese pop songs composed by Okada Tooru and sung in English! by SEIKA. Intertiles provide continuity, like in old silent films.

Where it came from
A-Girl is a short 1993 original video animation produced by the renowned studio Madhouse, adapted from the manga by Yukari Ichijo. The production reflects the experimental era of early 90s OVAs, where studios frequently explored standalone supernatural or fantasy premises tailored for a home video market. It follows a young woman who discovers she is a vampire, blending gothic romantic aesthetics with the distinctive, flowing character designs typical of Ichijo’s work from that period.
The animation direction and aesthetic choices were intended to translate Ichijo’s celebrated shojo manga style into a cinematic, moody atmosphere. While Madhouse was establishing its reputation for high-quality technical animation, A-Girl served as a smaller-scale project that highlighted the studio's ability to maintain artistic integrity on niche properties. It remains a notable, if somewhat obscure, example of the studio’s commitment to varied source material during the pre-digital animation transition.
